How it works
A question arrives
At the time they chose, one text asks how the morning is going, in plain words. No app, no login, any phone that gets texts.
They reply
A few words or one word. Anything back means the day is fine. Their answer reaches you as they wrote it.
A second question follows
Once the check-in is answered, a question about their life arrives, with a link to answer at length or by text. Every answer is kept in their own words.
One reply, and the morning is settled
You do not have to ring to find out. They do not have to be asked. A reply of any kind, and both of you can get on with the day.
The answers add up
A question a day about childhood, work, the people and places that mattered. By the end of a year, a life written down by the person who lived it.
No camera, no sensor, no app. One person is asked a question, and answers it.
Every answer, kept as they said it
Each answer is saved word for word, under the topic it belongs to. Nobody edits it and nothing is summarized for them. On Sunday evening, everyone in their circle gets the week's answers by email.
A printed book of the year's answers is on the way. The archive is yours from the first day.
If there's no reply
Nothing happens quickly, and they always get more than one chance to answer. Here is the whole sequence, with the times attached.
One hour later
A second text, in the same thread
A casual line: just checking back in. Most mornings end here. The phone was in another room.
Two hours later
The main contact hears
A short text: no reply yet this morning, and the last thing they said. Informational, so you can decide whether to ring.
Three hours later
The next person in their circle is told
Plainer words: we still have not heard from them, please check on them now. If there is nobody second, the main contact is asked again in the same words.
Any reply from them stops the sequence at once, including a reply that says today is not a good day.
The family decides what to do
Usually that is a phone call, or a neighbor walking over. We do not call emergency services and we do not send anyone to the door. That decision stays with the people who know them.

Does my parent need a smartphone?
No. Any phone that can receive a text message works, including a flip phone. The daily question about their life comes with a link, and they can tap it or simply text their answer back.
What if they do not reply?
One hour later they get a second text in the same thread. After two hours the main contact is told. After three, the next person in their circle. Any reply from them stops the sequence.
Who can read their answers?
The people in their circle, whom you add and who each confirm their own phone. Nobody else. Their answers are never sold, shared, or used to judge how they are doing.
Can they stop?
Yes, at any moment, by texting STOP. The messages pause, the main contact is told, and START turns them back on.
