SMS Consent

The text messages Morning Coffee sends, how often, what they cost, and how to stop them.

This page is a draft. It is being reviewed before the service opens, and the wording may change.

The program

Morning Coffee sends a short text message each morning to a person living alone, asking how the morning is going, and a second message with a question about their life. If a morning goes unanswered, the people in their circle are texted so that someone can check on them.

How consent is given

The person receiving check-ins agrees by tapping the link in the first message sent to their phone. Nothing else is sent to that phone until they have tapped it.

Each person in the circle agrees by entering the code texted to their own phone, or by ticking the consent box when they set up the account. The account holder confirms they have talked to the person receiving check-ins and that the person expects the messages.

How often

The person receiving check-ins gets up to two messages a day, plus one follow-up on a morning with no reply. People in their circle receive a message only when there is something to tell them: a morning with no reply, a reply that needs attention, or a change to the account. Message frequency varies.

What it costs

Message and data rates may apply.

Morning Coffee does not charge for messages. The account holder pays the monthly price; nobody receiving messages is charged by Morning Coffee.

How to stop

Reply STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT to any message, from the phone that receives it. Messages to that phone stop at once and this confirmation is sent:

Messages are paused. Text START anytime to bring them back. Take care.

When the person receiving check-ins stops, the account's main contact is told that the messages are paused, so that a quiet morning is never mistaken for a missed one. Reply START to begin again.

How to get help

Reply HELP to any message for the support number, or call 1-800-555-0142 (Seven days a week, 8am to 8pm Eastern), or email hello@morningcoffee.example.

Sharing

Phone numbers and the consent to receive messages are never sold, shared with third parties for their own marketing, or used for anything other than the messages described here.

Carriers

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on the carrier and the phone.
