What we ask
One simple question a day, like "How are you doing today?"
Good morning, David. How are you doing today?
Doing fine. Slept well.
Good morning, Linda. How's your day going?
Good so far. Going to the store later.
How they can reply
Any reply counts, even one word. They can answer the question or write about anything else.
I'm fine. Just had breakfast.
Fine.
Skipping a day
If they reply "not today" or "skip", we don't send a reminder or a life story question that day.
If they don't reply
We give them time to answer before we contact anyone. The main contact can change these times in Settings.
One hour after the text
We text them again
A short reminder.
Two hours after
We text the main contact
We let them know there's been no reply, so they can check in.
Three hours after
We text the next person in their circle
We ask them to check on your loved one. If there's no one else in the circle, we text the main contact again.
If they reply, everything stops and we tell anyone we've texted. Whoever reaches them first replies CHECKED IN, and we let the others know.
What happens next is up to their circle
Most people call, or ask a neighbor to check on them. We don't call emergency services or send anyone to their home. If no one confirms they're okay by midnight, that day shows as no reply in the weekly email.
What the text says
The text says who hasn't replied and what to do:
Morning Hello: Linda has not replied to their 9:00am check-in today. Please contact them. Once you have confirmed they are ok, reply CHECKED IN.
- Whoever reaches them first replies CHECKED IN. We let everyone else we texted know.
- If your loved one replies in the meantime, we tell everyone we texted.
- If no one confirms they're okay by midnight, the day shows as no reply in the weekly email.
If a reply is worrying
If they mention something serious, like chest pain or trouble breathing, we text the main contact right away with what they wrote. If the main contact doesn't reply CHECKED IN within half an hour, we text the next person in their circle. If they mention something worth knowing, or we can't tell how they are, we text the main contact what they wrote.
Their circle
Their circle is up to four people you choose, like a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. Everyone gets the weekly email, and anyone who signs in can open their tree of life. If they don't reply, we text the main contact, then one more person if needed.
Who can be in it
One main contact
Usually the person who signed up. We text them first, and they manage the account.
Up to three more people
Family, friends, or neighbors. The first person you add is the one we text if we can't reach the main contact. Everyone gets the weekly email.
Everyone confirms their phone
Circle members confirm with a code we text them. Your loved one confirms by tapping a link. We don't text a number until it's confirmed.
What each person gets
Your loved one
One check-in text a day and one question about their life. Nothing to install or sign in to.
The main contact
A text when your loved one replies each day, a text if they don't, the weekly email, and this week's replies whenever they sign in. The main contact also manages the time, the people, and the settings.
Everyone else
The weekly email. The first person added also gets a text if the main contact hasn't replied CHECKED IN in time.
Days they're busy
If they have a regular weekly appointment, the main contact can mark that time. The wait before each follow-up stops during that time and picks up after. For a single day, they can reply "not today".
What your loved one needs
Any phone that gets texts
Even a flip phone works. It needs to open one link, to confirm the number. They can always answer by text.

A time that suits them
The text arrives at the same time every day, in their time zone. Pick a time when they're usually awake.
A way to stop
They can text STOP to pause the texts and the weekly email, and START to resume. Your plan or trial keeps going. We let you know either way.
