Privacy Policy

What Morning Coffee keeps, why, who can see it, and what happens to it when an account closes.

This page is a draft. It is being reviewed before the service opens, and the wording may change.

Who we are

[Placeholder: the legal entity's name and address.] Morning Coffee is the service described on this site. Questions about this policy go to hello@morningcoffee.example or 1-800-555-0142.

What we collect

We collect only what the service needs to send the messages and show them to the right people.

  • For the person receiving check-ins: their first and last name, their phone number, the time zone and the time of day the message should arrive, any health conditions the account holder chooses to name so that the questions fit, and every reply and answer they send, kept word for word.
  • For each person in the circle: their name, phone number, and email address, and their place in the order in which they are told about a morning with no reply.
  • For the account holder: an email address and a password, and the payment details held by our payment provider once the fourteen-day free trial ends. We never see the full card number.
  • The record of what was sent and when: each message, its delivery result, and the times at which each step of a missed morning happened.

What we do not collect

No location, no contacts, no other apps, no sensors, nothing from the phone beyond the messages the person chooses to send. We do not collect the gender of the person receiving check-ins, and we do not infer anything about their health or their mood from what they write. Their words are passed on as written.

Why

To send the morning check-in and the daily question, to tell the circle about a morning with no reply or a reply that needs attention, to keep the person's answers as the story of their life, and to send the weekly summary to the circle. Nothing else.

Who can see it

The people in the circle, whom the account holder adds and who each confirm their own phone. Our staff can see it when needed to run the service or to answer a question from the circle. Nobody else. We never sell personal information, and we never share it for anyone else's marketing.

The companies that help us run it

Messages are carried by a text-message provider, the weekly summary by an email provider, payments by a payment provider, and the service runs on a hosting provider. Each receives only what it needs to do its part, under agreements that forbid any other use. [Placeholder: name the providers once the contracts are final.]

How long we keep it

The person's replies and answers are kept as written for as long as the account exists, because the archive is the service. Closing the account stops every message that day; the archive stays as it was, so nothing a person said is lost. [Placeholder, legal review: the policy for requests to delete an archive, and the retention period after an account closes.]

Your rights

The account holder can read, correct, and export everything held about the account, and can close it at any time. The person receiving check-ins can stop the messages at any moment by replying STOP, without an account and without explaining. [Placeholder, legal review: the rights that apply under the laws of the states served, and how to exercise them.]

Children

The service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under eighteen.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the account holder is told by email before the change takes effect.
